About

Wakahotes is a publication where I analyze, synthesize, and scrutinize things I am reading, watching, listening to, playing, or simply observing in everyday life. Topics and sources of inspiration may range from Crime and Punishment to Animal Man, Brat to hiking, Glorantha to Malcolm X. Don’t recognize some or any of those things? Don’t worry! This is not meant to primarily be a fan page or media review column but rather a place to focus on underlying ideas, emotions, and insights drawn from a variety of sources regardless of the subject or inspiration. As my interests change or shift focus, so too will the newsletter, but at its core it will remain a space to explore the connective threads in art and the world around us.

Does that mean there won’t be any reviews or casual discussions about art and media? Of course not! This Substack page includes a chat feature where we can talk about hobbies, art, music… whatever we as a community want to discuss! I may also post less formal reviews and reactions, or mentions of things that I am reading, watching, listening to, etc., but that will not be the primary focus of the newsletter.

Why subscribe?

Because it’s free! Additionally, if you subscribe you will receive every new post in your email inbox to easily stay up-to-date with the newsletter. Subscribing with a Substack account will also allow you to engage with community features such as the chat.

The full archive of posts is available right here on the Substack app and website.

About Me

I work full-time in the public service sector while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English part-time. A lifelong resident and native of Wyoming, my hobbies include hiking, gaming, reading, and writing. Living in such a vast, sparsely populated state means I am surrounded by beautiful open spaces to explore, but it also makes it difficult to find and connect with others who share some of my hobbies and interests (hiking excepted — almost everyone around here loves the outdoors), so I have turned to the internet to make more connections and build and join communities around my interests.

In addition to this publication, you can find me on YouTube. I also track most of my reading on StoryGraph.
